{"id":22,"date":"2010-12-28T18:46:53","date_gmt":"2010-12-28T15:46:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubune.com\/blog\/?p=22"},"modified":"2010-12-28T18:46:53","modified_gmt":"2010-12-28T15:46:53","slug":"nepal-allows-foreign-adoption-of-disabled-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ubune.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/28\/nepal-allows-foreign-adoption-of-disabled-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Nepal allows foreign adoption of disabled children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEPAL has amended its legislation to allow disabled children to be  adopted abroad, a government official said on Tuesday, two years after a  scandal over &#8216;fake&#8217; orphans.<\/p>\n<p>The country introduced new adoption laws in 2008 following  reports of unscrupulous agents trafficking children who had been taken  from their living parents.<\/p>\n<p>But many countries say the checking system is still not  effective, and the United States and Canada earlier this year suspended  adoptions from Nepal over the concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There have been requests from prospective adoptive parents  for the disabled children,&#8217; Sherjung Karki, under secretary of the  ministry for children, told AFP. &#8216;Therefore, we have amended legislation  to allow children who are mentally and physically disabled for  inter-country adoption.
