Ten school knapsacks from an anonymous donor were found in front of the entrance of a children\u2019s welfare facility on Christmas Day Saturday in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, the prefectural government said Monday.<\/p>\n
The facility, after consultations with the police, has decided to accept the knapsacks, apparently worth about 300,000 yen, as a donation, according to the local government, which has jurisdiction over the facility.<\/p>\n
The knapsacks will be used by children entering elementary school next spring, it said.<\/p>\n
It is customary in Japan for the family of a child who enters elementary school to prepare a new leather or synthetic leather knapsack for use at the school.<\/p>\n
A worker at the facility found boxes with gift wrappings placed at the entrance around noon Saturday.<\/p>\n
A Christmas card was attached, with a handwritten message saying, \u2018\u2018Please use them for the children.\u2019\u2019 The card was in an envelope bearing the name \u2018\u2018Naoto Date\u2019\u2019\u2014the hero in the cartoon and animation series \u2018\u2018Tiger Mask,\u2019\u2019 who fights as a masked pro wrestler and contributes to an orphanage as he himself was an orphan.<\/p>\n
The facility temporarily takes custody of children and minors who are without proper care or suspected of delinquency.<\/p>\n
