The environment-friendly fuel has been developed in secret at a laboratory in Oxford and could be available in as little as three years. Motorists could even be able to drive for 300 to 400 miles before needing to fill up.<\/p>\n<p>The breakthrough comes as average UK fuel prices have hit a record high, marking \u201canother milestone along a road of misery for drivers\u201d, according to motoring organisation the AA. The revolutionary fuel, which has been invented by Cella Energy, produces no greenhouse gases and is \u201csuitable for widespread use as a carbon-free alternative to petrol\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It is formed of \u201cmicro-beads\u201d that can be poured and pumped like a liquid. RAC motoring strategist Adrian Tink last night described the invention as a \u201cvery exciting breakthrough.\u201d He added: \u201cThe test is whether it is green, accessible and affordable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis appears to tick all the boxes. If it can run in current cars, that is a huge bonus and would speed through its distribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe materials are hydrogen-based and so when used produce no carbon emissions at the point of use, in a similar way to electric vehicles.\u201d<br \/>\nMr Voller said that the new fuel was set to be tested with vehicle manufacturers in 2012 and could potentially be available on forecourts within three years. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BRITISH scientists have invented an \u201cartificial\u201d petrol that could spell an end to soaring prices at the pumps.
