{"id":497,"date":"2011-07-22T02:32:56","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T08:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ubune.com\/blog\/?p=497"},"modified":"2011-07-20T02:34:49","modified_gmt":"2011-07-20T08:34:49","slug":"nepal-re-measures-mount-everest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ubune.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/22\/nepal-re-measures-mount-everest\/","title":{"rendered":"Nepal re-measures Mount Everest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/STI\/STIMEDIA\/image\/20110719\/mount.afp.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>NEPAL has begun a project to re-measure Mount Everest in an attempt to end confusion about the exact height of the world&#8217;s tallest peak, a government spokesman in Kathmandu said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Everest, which straddles Nepal and China, is generally thought to stand at 8,848mafter an Indian survey in 1954, but other more recent measurements have varied by several metres.<\/p>\n<p>Gopal Giri, a spokesman with the Nepalese land reform and management ministry, said that during border talks between the two countries, the Chinese delegates often use their measurement of 8,844m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have begun the measurement to clear this confusion.
